HONOLULU — One of Honolulu's largest homeless service providers is now operating one of the city's biggest emergency shelters.
The Waikiki Health Center said in a statement Monday its Care-A-Van program has taken over management of the Next Step Project in Kakaako.
Care-A-Van has been providing intake, assessment and counseling services at Next Step since the shelter opened in 2006. The program will now oversee all aspects of the shelter, and contract H-5 to oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility.
Care-A-Van offers services at a drop-in center in Kaimuki and across Oahu through outreach efforts.
It offers primary medical care, behavioral health counseling, housing and job assistance, mail and message services, and additional services to help end homelessness.
