Historic Windward Oahu hotel has gone to the dogs

A historic landmark on Oahu's Windward side has been renovated and remodeled and now welcomes a new breed of visitors.
For close to 50 years the quaint and charming Schrader's Windward Country Inn welcomed guests from around the world to Wailau Point .
"Just very very different local feel to it that I don't think I have seen anywhere else on the island," said Mary Harris visiting Pennsylvania.
Last year the hotel's owner Ralph Schrader died at the age of 84 but his legacy continues to live on after a couple from the North Shore bought the property and decided to transform the simple inn into a boutique hotel and spa.
"We wanted to honor the environment and our location by bringing our suites up to high standards," said Stephanie Ryan, Paradise Bay Resort owner.
The resort sits on an acre an a half of beachfront property facing Kaneohe Bay.
Ryan invested about $2-million in upgrades to the property's ten buildings.
"All rooms are suites and they are beautifully redone with hard wood floors, cherry cabinets, slate bathrooms and luxurious bedding and furnishings," Ryan says.
"The view here is as beautiful as any place that I've seen even in Hawaii," said Steven Cobb, visiting from Tennessee.
The only resort hotel in Kaneohe, Ryan kept all the original employees and added a few to the office and brand new spa.
At full occupancy right now, the hotel is also pleased to announce they are open to all members of the family.
They are offering a special Pets in Paradise promotion through September.
"Pets stay for free and there's half off pets and parents spa services and the proceeds go to the Oahu SPCA," Ryan says.
Two years ago Ryan opened the Oahu SPCA, a non-profit no-kill shelter. She's saved more than 2,000 animals over the past two years and she can add saving the old Schrader Inn to her resume too.
"And so obviously they'd be very pet friendly but they are very guest friendly which is the most important thing," Cobb says.
