Folsom's Cal ISO headquarters earns highest green building certification

The California Independent System Operator Corp.'s Folsom headquarters - a $150 million power grid control center completed in January this year - has received the highest possible certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system for green buildings.
The "platinum" certification means the building meets LEED's most stringent environmental standards for construction and operation.
LEED building-certification system evaluates energy savings, water efficiency, indoor environment, use of materials, use of space and pollution prevention.
The rating system was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The ISO campus includes rooftop and carport photovoltaic solar panels that produce 750 kilowatts of electricity. Though the new headquarters is twice the size of the old ISO facility, it uses 72 percent less energy.
