AeroVironment has installed
Hawaii's second hotel-sited electric vehicle charging station as part
of the state’s effort to encourage wider adoption of EVs.
The charging station at the
Marriott Waikiki is one of up to 320 AeroVironment plans to install
across the state under an $820,000 state grant paid for with federal
stimulus money.
AeroVironment also announced
plans to install additional charging stations at Outrigger’s OHANA
Waikiki East, Embassy Suites Waikiki Beach Walk and Wailea Beach
Marriott on Maui.
The charging infrastructure
initiative helps to comply with a new state law requiring that a portion
of all publicly available parking lots of a certain size become
EV-ready. The deadline for charging station installations is midnight,
Dec. 31.
“Our work with partners such as
Marriott and Outrigger, both leaders in the sustainability movement,
demonstrates our commitment to helping Hawaii build the foundation for a
cleaner transportation future,” said Kristen Helsel, vice president of
EV Solutions at AeroVironment.
The state’s first hotel-sited charging station was installed in April by Better Place at the Sheraton Waikiki.
A Note from Steve: I have charged my EV at the Original Charging Station near The Sheraton. Let me tell you, It always attracts a crowd.
